At press time, the 42-year-old man wanted for unlawful liberty had still not been found.
Discretion
The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) has shown discretion in its public statements, limiting itself to saying that police officers were on the ground and that investigators were still “assigned” to this event.
“For obvious security reasons, whether for our members, the population and the individual in question, we cannot divulge more [d’information] in relation to their position on the field,” said Sergeant Hélène St-Pierre.
According to information reported by Radio-Canada, the police do not exclude that the suspect may have gone to New Brunswick. The SQ, however, did not want to confirm this possibility.
Vaillancourt, who has a well-stocked criminal record, fled after being seen in Matane. He then left the road in Saint-Ulric, before fleeing on foot.
