Andreescu, 64e world racket, ended the duel against the tournament favorite after one hour and 21 minutes of play.

It was the second career game between the two women, following the Ontarian’s 5-7, 6-2, 7-5 victory in the second round of the Rogers Cup in Toronto in 2019.

This time, Andreescu proved to be more effective than her opponent with her second serve ball — although the Russian, 13e world racket, outscored it 4-3 in aces.

The representative of the maple leaf was also more opportunistic than her opponent in a break situation, in addition to having eliminated waste from her game.

Andreescu converted five of his six break points against Kasatkina. The latter, who committed six double faults during the duel, broke her rival only twice in six occasions.

Andreescu, the 2019 U.S. Open champion, will face the winner of the duel between fourth-seeded Romanian Simona Halep and American Amanda Anisimova in the semifinals.

This is Andreescu’s first semi-final this season. She had reached the quarter-finals at the Rome tournament last month, before losing to the favorite, the Polish Iga Swiatek.

The Bad Homburg tournament serves as preparation for Wimbledon, which gets under way on June 27.
