Azerbaijani soldier killed on border with Armenia, Baku says

Armenia immediately denied any involvement in the shooting targeting Azerbaijani positions.

An Azerbaijani soldier was killed on Saturday September 30 by a sniper from the positions of the Armenian armed forces on the border between the two countries, denounces the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense in a press release. “The soldier was killed this afternoon” in the Kelbajar region (…) from the village of Kut, in Armenia, and “units of the Azerbaijani armed forces take retaliatory measures”he added.

For its part, Armenia has denied any involvement, its Defense Ministry affirming on Telegram that this “statement” according to which “Armenian units opened fire on Azerbaijani positions (…) born [correspondait] not to reality”.

After Baku’s lightning victory last week and the capitulation of the Armenian separatists of Nagorno-Karabakh, the enclave on Thursday decreed the historic dissolution, on January 1, of all its institutions. In total, nearly 600 deaths have been reported in the wake of Baku’s military offensive. The fighting itself killed around 200 soldiers on each side.
