Huge shock wave in the world of tennis: Australian Ashleigh Barty, the best player in the world, announced her retirement from competition at the age of 25.
“I wasn’t too sure how I was going to do this. […] it’s hard to say […] I’m so happy and I’m so ready. I just know that right now, in my heart, for me as a person, it’s the right thing to do,” Barty said in an emotionally charged video posted to social media on Wednesday.
The announcement comes less than two months after Barty won the Australian Open for his third career Grand Slam title.
