“Au chemin 4”, Alexis Chartrand and Cédric Dind-Lavoie

The composer and multi-instrumentalist Cédric Dind-Lavoie revealed himself to us in 2021 thanks to his album Archives, through which he brought old recordings of traditional songs back to life orchestrated in a contemporary way. It is with this same approach to modernizing the musical heritage that he teams up this time with the violinist Alexis Chartrand, trained in classical music, keen on baroque and traditional music from here, Acadia, Ireland and of Scotland. Chartrand’s playing embraces traditional tunes, made even more poignant by the amber sound and the squeaking of the strings of his baroque violin, while Dind-Lavoie creates harmonies on the piano made of layered chords and chosen notes; this folklore, suddenly, arrives in the garden of post-romantic neoclassical music, it is said, breathing the air between the notes on the superb Mimeault And Rachoudin in opening, gaining rhythm on Brandypodorythmia even on Allard / Saint-Hilaire / Réhel. A short, beautiful, inventive album.
