Despite the continuing conflict in Ukraine, a cargo ship was able to leave the port of Odessa to export Ukrainian cereals to Lebanon, following the agreement between Russians and Ukrainians. A first since the beginning of the war.
The departure siren of a cargo ship sounded on the port of Odessa (Ukraine), Monday August 1, for the first time since the beginning of the war. The first grain ship, containing more than 26,000 tons of corn, benefited from the agreement signed between Russia and Ukraine to allow the export of precious Ukrainian cereals. Leaving this Monday morning, the freighter should reach Istanbul (Turkey) on Tuesday August 2nd.
In the Turkish port, its cargo will be checked, in application of the agreement. The ship will then head for Tripoli (Lebanon). The journey of a few days is monitored, hour by hour, from a control center based in Turkey. Around a table, a few meters from each other, Ukrainians and Russians will watch over the passage of each ship. The resumption of Ukrainian exports is a global issue, and even a survival one for many countries.
