Unaccustomed to mass killings, Canada is in shock. This Sunday, September 4, knife attacks left at least 10 dead and around 15 injured in the province of Saskatchewan. Two cities were targeted. Police found 10 bodies in the indigenous community of James Smith Cree Nation and in the nearby town of Weldon.
“Several people were injured, 15 of whom have so far been transported to various hospitals”, said the assistant commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau denounced these attacks on Twitter and addressed his thoughts “to those who have lost a loved one and to those who have been injured.”
Two suspects identified
Two suspects have been identified. It is two brothers : Damien Sanderson and Myles Sanderson, aged 30 and 31. Last seen in a black Nissan Rogue vehicle, they are actively sought.
For now, the motive for the attacks is not knownas well as the identity of the victims. “Some of the victims seem to have been targeted, and others chosen at random”said Saskatchewan Police Chief Rhonda Blackmore.
