The upward trend of COVID-19 continues in Quebec, as the province reports 882 new cases and one additional death on Wednesday. The number of hospitalizations is also increasing, as young people aged 5 to 11 start receiving their first dose of the vaccine.
These 882 new cases bring the daily average calculated over seven days to 751. The trend is thus upwards by 18% over one week. The additional death brings the daily average to three, a trend that remains stable over a week.
There is also an increase of eight hospitalizations in the Quebec network. So far, 211 patients remain hospitalized in connection with COVID-19, of which 46 are still in intensive care, a figure which for its part remained stable compared to the day before.
It should also be noted that the 211 people hospitalized represent an increase of approximately 8% in their number, over a period of one week.
Towards a revival for vaccination?
On the vaccination side, about 6,550 additional doses were administered during the day of Tuesday in Quebec, to which are added 380 vaccines given before November 23 which had not yet been counted. Including citizens vaccinated outside Quebec, approximately 13.7 million doses have been given to Quebecers since the start of the pandemic.
If the pace of the vaccination campaign has slowed for a few weeks already, everything indicates that it will start to rise again in the coming days, as children aged 5 to 11 began to receive their first dose on Wednesday, after the authorization required by Health Canada last Friday.
The vaccination campaign for children aged 5 to 11 took off across Quebec on Wednesday morning. At the Palais des congrès, the teams on the spot estimate to be able to vaccinate up to 1000 children per day, but the operation will not climb until then in the first days, the machine being still “in break-in”, admit the authorities . There are approximately 650,000 children aged 5 to 11 in Quebec. The interval between the administration of the doses is fixed at eight weeks.
Earlier this week, on Monday, the province performed 32,118 drug tests, a figure that is slightly higher than the average for the past few days.
