The Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI) and the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) will try to shed light on an intervention by the Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ) for an assault at the end of which a man armed with knives lost his life.
The individual was subdued and transported by ambulance; he was later pronounced dead, the BEI said on Tuesday.
On the other hand, a victim in this case, a woman, was transported to a hospital center.
According to preliminary information communicated to the BEI, around 5:30 p.m., a call was made to the 911 emergency telephone center for an armed attack on Chemin Sainte-Foy near the intersection of Avenue Chèvremont, according to the SPVQ.
The police officers who arrived on the scene reportedly located an individual in front of a building corresponding to the description given. He would have been armed with knives at the time.
The Quebec police would have established verbal contact with him, but he would have refused to cooperate. At some point, the individual allegedly walked towards the police and it was there that he was hit by at least one firearm projectile.
Seven BEI investigators were assigned to investigate the circumstances of the intervention. The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) will support the BEI investigation, in addition to leading a parallel investigation.
