(Ottawa) The Prime Minister’s Office says Justin Trudeau spoke with former President Donald Trump on Sunday afternoon following a fatal shooting at one of his campaign rallies on Saturday.
Mr. Trudeau’s office issued a statement saying the prime minister wished Mr. Trump a speedy recovery, “condemned the terrible assassination attempt that occurred yesterday and reiterated that political violence has no place.”
In an apparent attempt to kill the former president and presumptive Republican presidential nominee, gunfire rang out at the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, killing one attendee and wounding at least two others.
Donald Trump’s campaign said he was fine after being carried from the scene by Secret Service agents with blood visible on his face.
The 20-year-old shooter, originally from Pennsylvania, was killed.
During the conversation with Mr. Trump, Justin Trudeau’s office said the prime minister offered his condolences to the victims of the shooting and the family of the deceased participant.
