(Dalton) Former President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, made a surprise appearance at the Plains Peanut Festival in their Georgia hometown on Saturday, the Carter Center, a foundation started by the politician of the same name, said in a statement. message published on X.

The former president is 98 years old, and he has been receiving palliative care at home since February. He will be 99 years old on October 4. The former first lady has since been diagnosed with dementia. The couple celebrated their 77th this summere wedding anniversary, thus extending their record as the longest married couple in the country.
“It was amazing, considering he’s in palliative care and he’s strong enough to come here. In my opinion, he was one of the toughest presidents, he’s my favorite,” Reed Elliotte, a resident of Corbin, Kentucky, told WALB-TV.
