Arrests and searches | Laval still tackles armed violence

Investigators from the Organized Crime Division of the Laval Police Department (SPL) have been targeting since early Thursday morning a dozen individuals suspected of being involved in armed violence that occurred on Jesus Island or elsewhere in the metropolitan area.

In total, approximately 150 police officers from the SPL, the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal, the Sûreté du Québec, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the police of Deux-Montagnes, Saint-Jérôme and Longueuil are carrying out searches and arrests in about ten residences and six vehicles.

“The Organized Crime Division of the Service de police de Laval is in operation in Laval, on the North Shore and in Montreal to arrest individuals in connection with the phenomenon of urban violence linked to firearms. For the moment, narcotics have been seized and we can also expect to find firearms, ”summarizes the spokesperson for the SPL, Érika Landry.

The investigation, which began last August, is part of Quebec’s Centaure strategy to combat the importation and trafficking of firearms.
