Armani gives up angora wool

(Milan) The Italian fashion house Armani pledged on Wednesday to ban Angora wool from its collections from the fall-winter 2022/2023 season, thus extending the list of prohibited materials as part of its policy to consideration of animal welfare.

“I am happy to announce” the removal “of Angora wool from all the group’s collections,” a sign of its commitment to “the protection of nature,” said designer Giorgio Armani in a statement.

At Armani, “the percentage of clothing containing Angora wool is very low and we plan to replace it with materials (meeting) the most stringent standards in terms of animal welfare,” told AFP a carrier. word of the group.

The Italian brand is thus following in the footsteps of other groups in the fashion sector such as Gucci, Zara, Burberry or even H & M who thus intended to stand out from practices involving animal abuse.

Animal rights organization Peta had called in 2013 for a boycott of products made from Angora rabbit fur, accusing – video in support – Chinese farms of plucking hair from living animals.

According to Peta, 90% of the world’s angora fur comes from China. Angora wool is renowned for its silky, light texture.

Georgio Armani announced in 2016 to renounce any form of animal fur in his collections, assuring that there were now valid alternatives to these “cruel practices”.
