Architecture students denounce a considerable lack of means. In some cities, classes are no longer guaranteed for lack of credit to hire teachers, not to mention the dilapidated premises. Example in Grenoble.

Following the courses under the umbrellas in an amphitheater where the ceiling is no longer airtight, this is what the students of the school of architecture of Grenoble (Isère) are reduced to. For several weeks, they have been mobilizing to denounce the lack of means and the state of advanced deterioration of the school. “At the beginning of the year, I was just told: ‘You’ll see, in winter it’s cold so buy a fleece’, as if it were normal”says Ariel Le Floch, a 2nd year student.

State underfunding

The students are mainly supported by their teachers, too few in number according to them. They regularly have to exceed their hours. Almost all the schools of architecture in France denounce chronic underfunding from the State, such as in Pau (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), Rouen (Seine-Maritime), Bordeaux (Gironde) or Paris. In a Parisian school, students go so far as to put themselves in danger by going to a room normally condemned because of asbestos.
