The distance education university of the Quebec university network, TÉLUQ, awarded an honorary doctorate to the poet and singer Gilles Vigneault on Sunday afternoon. This is another prestigious distinction to add to the vast collection of the artist, which has more than a dozen honorary degrees.
“It’s the 50th anniversary of the university. We thus mark our convocation of the degrees with the presence of a distinguished guest, who has always highlighted the French language”, indicated Élisabeth Farinacci, Director of Communications at TÉLUQ University, in an interview with The duty.
She explains that the artist wanted to receive his prize in person, at the Palais Montcalm, in Quebec, to meet the students of the university: “Studying at a distance is very different, it’s complicated, and it requires a lot of motivation, a reality that prompted Mr. Vigneault to meet the students. »
Born in 1928 in Natashquan, on the North Shore, Gilles Vigneault has produced dozens of song albums, and more than a dozen collections of stories or poems. At 93, he remains very active in the public sphere. His last album, Like a love songwas released in 2021.
The singer also receives many tributes this fall. The poetry festival Rendez-vous colors, organ and poetry, Lanaudière, organizes music performances and poetry readings in his honor, from Saturday until Monday.
Nahid Aboumansour, founder of the social integration NPO Petites-Mains, also received an honorary doctorate from TÉLUQ University on Sunday.
