“The shooting last week is an extremely rare event in Anjou, which fits into a larger context, which goes beyond its territory. Several boroughs in the metropolis have in fact been the host of violent events in recent months, many of which border on Anjou ”, we read in a press release issued by the borough.

“Despite the episodes of violence in Montreal, Anjou remains a safe borough,” said the borough.

Last Thursday, 20-year-old Hani Ouahdi was shot while he was in Place Cointerel, near the corner of rue de la Roseraie. He succumbed to his injuries in hospital. A 17-year-old boy was also shot and injured in the upper body in the shooting.

The Borough of Anjou believes that the “proliferation of firearms” and “several social and economic factors” are at the source of the outbreak of violence taking place in the streets of Montreal.

“Like its citizens, the district of Anjou is concerned and worried about the development of this violence, which creates a feeling of insecurity in our district”, indicated the district, in the same press release. He believes that all levels of government, as well as community stakeholders, have a role to play in order to turn the tide.

The borough emphasizes working in close collaboration with the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), saying that the police provide an “increased presence” in the area.

The Borough of Anjou reminds that anyone who has information concerning the shooting of December 2 is invited to contact the SPVM neighborhood station 46 at 514 280-0146 or anonymously with Info-Crime Montreal at 514 393- 1133.
