Angry Guadeloupe, travels to Qatar one year before the World Cup and the rocket that will save the Earth

Brussels, Vienna, Amsterdam … Everywhere the Covid epidemic is starting again, everywhere the measures are hardening, and everywhere disputes are exploding against health decisions. And France is not spared: it is in Guadeloupe that, for several days, part of the population has been mobilizing against the vaccination obligation for caregivers.

But the Covid is only the trigger for a social protest that is now much broader. On roadblocks and between looting, demonstrators tell of their desires for work, training, public services … in short, their desire for the future in a French department where the unemployment rate and prices are reaching peaks.

And one, and two, and three … stars? In any case, this is what the Blues of Didier Deschamps will try to conquer in a year in Qatar. After a disappointing Euro, the French players, reigning world champions, will touch their first balls in the heat of Qatar in a year to the day.

The controversies surrounding the organization by the emirate of this international meeting were not lacking. There were the accusations of corruption, the oddities of a World Cup in the middle of winter, the ecological questions … and then there are these figures unveiled by several NGOs, including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch: 6,500 workers are said to be dead on stadium sites for ten years.

We wanted to know more about how Qatar is preparing for this World Cup, and also transforming its labor law thanks to the revelations. This is why we called Aurélien Colly, he is the special envoy of Radio France in Doha.

For the less cinephiles among us – or for the youngest, the film was released 24 years ago anyway – Armageddonis the story of an asteroid heading straight for Earth and threatening to eradicate all human life. Luckily, Bruce Willis was there to save us all.

But will it always be if this scenario were to come true? NASA is not prepared to take the risk. So she threw a dress rehearsal, dubbed “DART” – dart in English. Tomorrow, a Space X rocket will take off towards an asteroid. The impact is expected in ten months and the goal is simple: to determine whether or not a rocket could divert an asteroid from its trajectory in the event of risk to the Earth.

Olivier Emond, the head of the Sciences de franceinfo, came to explain in detail the stakes of this experiment to 300 million euros.

Guests: Aurélien Colly, special correspondent of Radio France in Qatar, and Olivier Emond, head of the Sciences – Health – Environment department of franceinfo
