“The economy will be the question of the ballot box,” said the leader of the PLQ during her first election press scrum.

Dominique Anglade wants to prove that his formation has not lost its title of “party of the economy of Quebec” at the hands of the CAQ of François Legault.

“Income growth may be good, but not growth in the pockets of Quebecers,” she railed before the National Assembly on Sunday, assuring that the PLQ is still the big party of the economy.

“I have one thing to say to François Legault, no one can call themselves the party of the economy if they are not able to recognize that the main obstacle to economic development is the shortage of labor. -work.”

Tax cuts

She mentions that her economic team “is very full”, naming tax specialist Marwah Rizqy, economist Ahmed Lamine Touré and financier Frédéric Beauchemin. “Myself, I held the position of Minister of the Economy and I worked 20 years in the sector”, she indicated, before taking the road to the county of Lafontaine, in Montreal, for a militant rally in the afternoon.

“I think of the cost of living. We have several families who are unable to make ends meet, who have to decide between paying the rent or buying food. This is not acceptable and it takes concrete proposals from us, ”said the chief, reiterating her promise to lower taxes.

“The objective is to meet the need for the cost of living (…) Quebecers must have money back in their pockets. He will have concrete proposals to reduce the tax rate to reduce taxes for middle-class Quebecers,” she said. The leader promises that she will not reduce government spending in order to restore a balanced budget, but she also promises that the tax cut will not be done with Quebecers’ credit cards.

However, the chairman of his campaign and former finance minister, Carlos Leitão, maintained on August 15 that a deficit was possible in order to succeed in lowering taxes. “It’s not something that would stop us,” he said.

Significant challenge

According to recent polls, Ms. Anglade and her training are only dropping in the polls, especially among Francophones. The PLQ obtains 17% of voting intentions in Quebec, but only 7% among the French-speaking electorate.

“An election campaign, we start the counters from scratch. We are going to meet Quebecers so that they can discover the proposals we have to make,” she said. She has 36 days to turn things around.

She says she is betting mainly on her “ECO” project in order to convince them.

This is a $100 billion economic and ecological project in partnership with the private sector, which includes the nationalization of green hydrogen.
