Angels in Hell | The duty

Over the past few days, I accompanied a loved one to the emergency room at Anna-Laberge hospital in Châteauguay. It is said to be one of the busiest in Quebec. There I saw hell. The people who arrived in ambulances, most of the time, people my age, or a little older. Injured people, people in great pain who were screaming in pain, people with wild eyes, accompanied by a limping loved one. I saw faces full of anxiety, pain, worry. To get a little better, you had to go through here, through this hell of pain, promiscuity, screaming… […]

In this hell there were angels. Dressed in pale green, pink, black. Faces that seemed cold, distant at first, until they approached us. And there, I saw compassion first, and it’s so important, I saw professionals, calm, efficient people, who had their hands full, but who were organized. Angels who, one day in their young lives, decided that they would take care of others. Angels who, we would have said, had a vocation. Angels who, today, need recognition for all the good they do around them. And this recognition comes at a price.
