British-American actress Angela Lansbury, who makes an appearance in this sequel to Knives Outhas “been in my life, all my life”, confessed Daniel Craig, specifying that his favorite film was the Disney studios film Bedknobs and Broomsticks released in 1971 in which she starred.

“It’s a blessing to have her in our film – and what an incredible life she’s had,” Craig told reporters during a press conference ahead of the film’s European premiere.

Director Rian Johnson says Angela Lansbury’s appearance in the crime movie sequel Knives Out released in 2019 alongside former Broadway star Stephen Sondheim, who died last November, followed brief visits to their homes.

“Besides the simple honor of having them in the film […] Just being able to have 10 minutes with each of them, to tell them what their work has meant to me was really, really special,” he added.

Glass Onionwhich features an all-star cast of Edward Norton, Kate Hudson and Janelle Monae, will hit theaters for just one week next month before streaming on Netflix from December 23.

A “subversive” sequel

After the success of the first film – which grossed over $300 million at the worldwide box office, despite a budget of just $40 million – Daniel Craig will return for the third time in the role of private detective Benoît Blanc.

Mr Johnson, who previously directed the controversial blockbuster Star Wars: The Last Jedireaffirmed that his new franchise stemmed from his love for the prolific queen of mystery novels Agatha Christie.

He wanted to be as “subversive” as the British writer in this sequel starring Edward Norton as a vain tech billionaire and Kate Hudson as a brainless “fashionista”.

In these novels, Agatha Christie introduced ” twists and turns that, if you put them in the scene today, would make people say ‘this is very subversive, you are subverting the genre,'” said the American director.

“If Agatha Christie was writing now, she would have tech billionaires as her characters. She wasn’t writing period pieces, she was writing for her time and all the things that we consider to be stereotypes of detective stories were figures of the time.”

Edward Norton was quick to take on the role of the fictional online app founder, with much of the film taking place on his ridiculously lavish private Greek island as he hosts wealthy friends.

“How can you not like making fun of tech freaks? “, he launched with a smile, adding that he had no shortage of examples in real life to imagine his character.

The film crew tried hard not to spoil the viewers’ pleasure by revealing clues to this tortuous plot. However, both Rian Johnson and Daniel Craig have confirmed that the white private detective is gay, with Hugh Grant making a fleeting appearance as his companion. “Nobody else in the world could bring more joy to Benoît Blanc,” joked the director.

The 12-day London Film Festival opened on October 5 with a new musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic, Matilda. Netflix’s animated version of the classic Pinocchiodirected by Oscar winner Guillermo del Toro, also premiered on Saturday.
