Andréane Frenette-Vallières wins the Grand Prix du livre de Montréal

The City of Montreal awarded the Grand Prix du livre de Montréal to author Andréane Frenette-Vallières on Tuesday for her poetic essay You will choose the mountainsas well as the Children’s Book Prize from the Bibliothèques de Montréal to François Blais for his posthumous novel The boy with upside down feet.


Published by Éditions du Noroît last fall, You will choose the mountains is a dialogue between feminist studies and nature poetics, which explores withdrawal as a means of survival. The jury highlighted the quality of the work, its originality and the depth of the experiences it tells.

The boy with upside down feetpublished by Fides also last fall, a few months after the death of François Blais (who passed away in May 2022), is a touching work which offers interesting and different reflections on friendship, according to the jury.

The Grand Prix du livre de Montréal is accompanied by a scholarship of $15,000 and the Children’s Book Prize from Bibliothèques de Montréal, with a scholarship of $5,000.
