An investigation was opened by the Nice public prosecutor’s office for embezzlement of public funds, targeting the president of the Republicans Éric Ciotti, during his campaign for the last legislative elections, in 2022, franceinfo learned Monday June 17 from the public prosecutor of Nice, requested following the report from the anti-corruption association Anticor. The investigation was opened on May 31.

The report was made by an Anticor referent, himself a candidate in these elections in another constituency in the Alpes-Maritimes in 2022, and concerns the misuse of parking cards at the port of Nice made available free of charge by the Chamber of Commerce. commerce and industry to relatives of the LR deputy, in conjunction with the Departmental Council. According to the association, at least eight cards were used.

As a reminder, another preliminary investigation for embezzlement of public funds was opened on January 22 around suspicions of multiple jobs at the Alpes-Maritimes departmental council which may have benefited the president of the Republicans Éric Ciotti, the Nice prosecutor’s office announced in mid-May. In November 2022, the National Financial Prosecutor’s Office also opened an investigation, in particular for embezzlement of public funds, relating to the jobs held by his ex-wife, Caroline Magne.
