An inmate from La Santé prison escaped on Wednesday from the specially equipped hospital unit in Villejuif (Val-de-Marne), dependent on the Fresnes penitentiary center, the Créteil prosecutor’s office announced on Friday February 3. An investigation into flagrant escape was opened and entrusted to the judicial police, said the prosecution.
Aged 35, this detainee had been in pre-trial detention since March 12, 2023 at the Santé prison in Paris, as part of a judicial investigation for extortion with a weapon, attempted extortion and rape and violence against a person committing to prostitution, again according to this same source. His transfer to this hospital unit took place on Tuesday.
“A security audit”
FO Justice pointed out the “security” around this inmate and asked “a security audit”: “We wonder about the measures taken for the management of this detainee in view of his profile”, declared the deputy local secretary of FO Justice in Fresnes, Andy Noël, contacted by AFP. Last October, an inmate from the Fresnes penitentiary center escaped in the middle of the night from the Kremlin-Bicêtre hospital, where he was left unsupervised.
