After the death of a baby in a Lyon nursery, an employee of the establishment was brought before the Lyon public prosecutor’s office with a view to her being indicted for “intentional homicide of a 15-year-old minor”confirms the public prosecutor, Nicolas Jacquet.
11-month-old baby girl died in hospital
The firefighters intervened around 8 a.m. Wednesday in this nursery in the third arrondissement of the city. The 11-month-old girl was unconscious. The child was transported to the Femme Mère Enfant hospital in Bron (Rhône) where she died.
The first elements of the investigation support “the hypothesis of ingestion by the child of a toxic product”, indicates the prosecutor of the Republic of Lyon. The only crèche employee present at the time of the events was first taken into custody for this count of manslaughter.
The employee admits having made the baby ingest a toxic product
But “the first hearings of the respondent did not allow the accidental thesis to be corroborated”, says Nicolas Jacquet. The respondent eventually acknowledged “that exceeded by the crying of the child, she had sprinkled her then made her ingest a caustic product”.
Its placement in custody was requested by the prosecution. “The investigations will have to continue on letters rogatory in order to determine the exact circumstances of these facts and will make it possible to deepen the elements relating to the personality of the respondent”explains the Lyon prosecutor’s office.
