They are 42 and live in community around a model based on freedom. In this ecovillage of Pourgues in Ariège, the children do not follow a traditional apprenticeship. Brut followed them for a day.

In the Pourgues ecovillage in Ariège, the inhabitants are experimenting with a new way of life and education, both based on freedom. A total of 42 people, including 18 children, live in community on the estate.

“Spending twenty years swallowing knowledge, knowledge, having to be better than others, to have a comfortable social position, we didn’t want that for our children”says David, a member of the community.

Here, education is not confined solely to the subjects taught in traditional schools. “We initiate them to cultivate what they eat, to have their hands a little in the ground, to be in connection with insects”, explains another member.

I want to pass on who I am, the pleasure of doing things, of doing them with enthusiasm, without being under the social or family pressure of having to do things out of societal need”.
