Four people died on Saturday evening, October 12, in the accident of a Tesla electric car which caught fire on a departmental road in Deux-Sèvres, the gendarmerie said.
The accident occurred around 10:45 p.m. Saturday evening near Melle, about twenty kilometers from Niort. According to the first elements of the investigation, the vehicle hit several road signs at high speed. The four people in the vehicle were “already dead when help arrived”said the gendarmerie. The Niort public prosecutor’s office requested a forensic examination of the vehicle as well as an autopsy of the four bodies to identify the victims, reports France Bleu Poitou.
This is not the first time that a Tesla vehicle has caught fire after a traffic accident. In March, a 50-year-old woman died at the wheel of her electric car after leaving the road and hitting a tree, reports West France.
