A fugitive wanted since last May was arrested Thursday by the Sûreté du Québec (SQ). Yacine Zouaoui, 32, had escaped from prison a few months ago and was on the list of the 10 most wanted criminals in Quebec.
The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) announced the arrest Thursday afternoon.
“The fugitive escaped from the Federal Training Centre, a minimum security detention facility on Montée Saint-François in Laval, on May 24,” the police force said in a press release.
The arrest was made in collaboration with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Correctional Service Canada, Interpol and the Border Services Agency. The dangerous criminal was arrested in Budapest, Hungary on September 3.
He will be repatriated to Canada shortly to face justice. Before his escape, he was serving a sentence for assault causing bodily harm and second-degree murder.
