“American Gigolo”: superfluous sequel

Last June, Paul Schrader let it be known on his Facebook page that a television sequel to his cult 1980 film, American Gigolo, was a bad idea. Listening to the first episodes, we tend to agree with him. We find the character of Julian Kaye, who was played by Richard Gere in the film, after he served 15 years in prison for a murder he allegedly did not commit. We look in vain for the relevance of planting in the current era this return to work of the aging luxury escort, embodied this time by Jon Bernthal, and we struggle to be interested in new intrigues.
