Alstom finalizes the sale of 12 very high-speed trains to the company Proxima, which seeks to compete with SNCF

The first train deliveries are expected in 2028. The Proxima company will be able to directly compete with TGV Inoui on connections between Paris and the Atlantic coast.

Alstom received a “firm order” of twelve very high-speed trains from the railway company Proxima, franceinfo learned on Thursday October 3. Proxima, a company founded in June 2024, is the “first independent company to enter the high-speed market in France”according to Alstom. It will spend 850 million euros to acquire its equipment. It also signs a 15-year maintenance contract with the manufacturer.

The first train deliveries are expected in 2028. This order guarantees work for “ten of Alstom’s 16 French sites”indicates the manufacturer. The Belfort site will, for example, develop the power cars, the Ornans (Doubs) site the engines. The project will be managed in La Rochelle (Charente-Maritime). The interior of the trains will be designed in Valenciennes (North) when the Tarbes site (Hautes-Pyrénées) will work on traction and electrical cabinets.

Proxima plans to deploy its trains on the Atlantic coast to connect Bordeaux, Nantes, Rennes, Angers to Paris. She ordered Avelia Horizons, the same model as the TGV M, the new generation high-speed train from SNCF. These double-deck trains are capable of “travel at speeds above 300 km/h”specifies Alstom.
