Alpine skiing | Zagreb’s second slalom cancelled, Shiffrin’s record hunt postponed

(Paris) The second slalom of the Women’s Alpine Skiing World Cup scheduled for Zagreb on Thursday is canceled due to “high temperatures and wind”, announced the International Ski Federation (FIS).

Winner of the first slalom on Wednesday, her 81e success in the World Cup, the American Mikaela Shiffrin could equal in the Croatian capital the women’s record for victories on the world circuit held by her compatriot Lindsey Vonn (82).

The hunt for Shiffrin’s record should resume on Saturday and Sunday, with two giants scheduled in Kranjska Gora (Slovenia).

Particularly mild temperatures have been observed in part of Europe for several weeks and are hampering the winter sports season, for tourists or for international sportsmen.

The slaloms contested Wednesday in Zagreb (women) and Garmisch (Germany, men), two low-altitude resorts, were on degraded slopes, in a landscape devoid of snow.
