(Are) Mikaela Shiffrin made a triumphant return to the Alpine Skiing World Cup after a six-week absence on Sunday, dominating the penultimate slalom of the season to record her 96the career victory and an eighth crystal globe in the discipline.
Taking to the slopes for the first time since injuring her left knee in January in Italy, the American achieved the best times in both runs. She beat Croatian Zrinka Ljutic by 1.24 seconds.
“It was so nice to ski again today with a little bit of the nerves and all the emotions I was hoping to feel,” Shiffrin said. Really proud of my team, and of course proud of myself, to come back here and perform. The second descent was one of my best. »
Canadians Ali Nullmeyer, Amelia Smart and Laurence St-Germain respectively finished in the 19e20e and 22e ranks.
Only four skiers have won the same title eight times. In addition to Shiffrin, Lindsey Vonn made it in the downhill, while Marcel Hirscher made it in the general classification. Ingemar Stenmark was successful in slalom and giant slalom.
