Alpine skiing | Marco Odermatt wins the small super-G globe

(Saalbach) Swiss Marco Odermatt won the small super-G globe on Friday in Saalbach after finishing fifth in the last event of the specialty this season, won by his compatriot Stefan Rogentin.

Taking full advantage of his good bib, Rogentin narrowly beat two other Swiss skiers who started just before him, Loïc Meillard by 3/100e and Arnaud Boisset of 15/100e. Frenchman Cyprien Sarrazin, back in competition on Friday and still aiming for the small downhill globe on Sunday, took fourth place.

This is the first World Cup victory for Rogentin, 29, who made his mark on a track that will host the World Championships in 2025.

Odermatt won the small super-G globe for the second year in a row, because the Austrian Vincent Kriechmayr, the only one able to challenge him for the small super-G globe if successful, finished sixth on degraded snow.

After those of the giant and the super-G, the 26-year-old skier can win the descent on Sunday at the end of a winter which saw him win his third big crystal globe.

This would be unheard of for 23 years and the Austrian Hermann Maier.

Odermatt, who has outperformed the competition this season, can also break his own record for points scored in a winter (2042 points last year).
