Alicia, young mother and cleaner, can’t imagine herself

“We clean the public space, we try to make the city as clean as possible by removing everything that is visual. Afterwards we have blowing, washing and weeding”. Alicia Chapeau is a surface technician in Nantes (Loire-Atlantique). She regrets that citizens do not make an effort to maintain a certain level of cleanliness despite the equipment made available. “Before working in Nantes, I didn’t realize the amount of waste. It’s maddening. (…) They throw in front of us and ask us to pick up. We are a bit taken for dogs by some”she regrets.

“As a young adult in society, it’s complicated to make ends meet and end the month with a positive bank account”, points out Alicia. Living in the countryside, she has no choice but to use her car to get to work: “I fill up with gas for 75 euros every week and a half or so. I am almost at 300 euros of gas per month”.

Holder of a BEP and a health and social baccalaureate, she worked for a few years at the University Hospital. Her current job makes her all the more aware of issues related to the environment: “Since I became a mum, it’s even more present in my mind. We have to leave something specific to the children of now”. If she says she is ready to vote, some doubts persist. “In the current context, it’s complicated to make choices and think about your future. We don’t even know what we’ll be able to do in six months”, says Alicia. For the time being, she does not yet know who her vote will go to, everything is still too much “wave”according to her. “My parents made us happy by going out, giving us toys. Now it’s complicated even if I try to go at the cheapest price. I don’t really know in what future my son will grow up”she worries.
