Following Emmanuel Macron’s letter to the King of Morocco in which he suggested Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara, Algeria has decided to recall its ambassador to Paris.

This issue is very sensitive since it has opposed Algiers and Rabat for almost fifty years. This territory was first under Spanish jurisdiction until the mid-1970s, and since then this region has become a point of contention between Algeria and Morocco.
