Snow fell in abundance on Sunday March 3 in the Rhône-Alpes region, Isère, the Loire and even Ardèche. At altitude, several access roads to the stations have been cut.

Motorists drove slowly under very dense snow on Sunday March 3. On the slippery road, some drivers lost control. Special equipment was essential in this mid-altitude sector, above Saint-Étienne (Loire). One driver spent nearly two hours installing chains on his campervan.

Savoie, Hautes-Alpes and Alpes-Maritimes on orange alert

The heavy precipitation kept snow removal services busy all day. Incessant back and forth to maintain traffic, at least on the main roads. In small towns, tractors were used. In Planfoy (Loire) in the Pilat massif, the snow is heavy. “I would say between 20 and 30 cm“, specifies a man. The snowfall should ease in the evening, but Savoie, the Hautes-Alpes and the Alpes-Maritimes remain placed on orange alert. The risk of avalanches is very high there.
