The death ofHalyna Hutchins rocked Hollywood. 42-year-old cinematographer died on October 21, 2021 on the set of the western Rust. The actor Alec Baldwin, author of the unfortunate shot has since been in shock. Joel Souza indicates in his testimony that the team was returning from their lunch break before the tragedy. Arriving on set to continue filming, he explained that he was not sure the gun had been checked a second time but that the term “cold weapon” (to announce that the machine was secure) has been spoken. The weapon was then given to Alec Baldwin: seated on a church pew, he then practiced drawing his weapon aiming at a camera, thinking he was holding a loaded pistol in his hand. The director was standing behind Halyna Hutchins when the shot rang out. He then “heard what sounded like a whiplash, then a loud pop”, he told the New Mexico sheriff.
Halyna Hutchins “complained about his stomach and put his hand on his abdomen”, before she “starts to stumble back and she is lying on the ground”. It wasn’t until after that Joel Souza realized he was bleeding from his shoulder. Reid Russel, for his part, explained that he “remembered Joel having blood on him and thatHalyna Hutchins said she couldn’t feel her legs anymore“.
Joel Souza said this tragedy was not filmed. According to Reid Russel, Alec Baldwin “had been very careful” with the guns on the set, recalling that he “made sure it was secure and that a child was not near him when they were discharging a gun” in a previous scene. If Alec Baldwin (63) already seems out of the question, the assistant director and the probably inexperienced head of the armory could find themselves at the heart of the investigation.
Halyna Hutchins leaves behind her 8-year-old son Andros and her husband Matthew. For his part, inevitably in shock, Alec Baldwin announced that his career was put on hold.
