Did you know ? Prince Albert of Monaco has Irish origins, through his mother, the iconic Grace Kelly. It is therefore quite natural that the sovereign took part in the celebrations of St Patrick, organized around the world on Thursday March 17, 2022. An interest in Ireland and its traditions which he passes on to his own children: the Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella (7 years).
On Thursday, Albert of Monaco and his twins attended a recital given at the Princess Grace Irish Library by students from Prince Rainier III’s Music and Theater Academy. The sovereign and his two little darlings thus listened to pieces by Irish composers to celebrate the culture of the country from the Rock. On Instagram, Hello Monaco relayed some photos of this event: Prince Albert appears all smiles, alongside his children, dressed in fluorescent green for the occasion. To see the “delighted” mine of the young princess, we doubt that she particularly appreciates this festive outfit. A little later Thursday, after dark, the prince’s palace was also dressed in green for the evening.
Jacques and Gabriella therefore have Irish origins through this famous grandmother whom they will unfortunately never know. Origins that go back to Grace Kelly’s paternal grandfather, John Henry Kelly, who left Ireland in 1887 to settle in the United States. It was in Philadelphia, which would become the stronghold of the Kelly clan, that he made his fortune by founding a construction company. Through her mother, Grace Kelly also had German origins.
