An Akwesasne police officer was injured Friday evening during an intervention where he had to fire at a motorist under the scope of an arrest warrant who refused to stop.

The event occurred around 8:50 p.m., in the area of ​​the village of Saint-Régis, according to the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service.

Two officers approached a person in a parked car on Akwesasne Street who was wanted for assault and aggravated assault.

“The officer gave several orders for her to get out of the vehicle, but the person sought refused and reversed her vehicle into the patrol car,” reads a statement released by the police force. locally on Facebook.

The suspect hits a police officer

It was at this moment that the suspect drove towards a policeman who was in front of him.

The officer, who suffered minor injuries, then fired two shots at the suspect. However, no one was hit.

While fleeing the scene, the individual hit a parked car and took the road to the American portion of Akwesasne.
