D-44 before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. A global event which portends a summer unlike any other in France with more than 15 million tourists expected in Ile-de-France, and more than 15,000 athletes. An influx of people arriving from all over the world, mainly by plane. Air France plans to transport up to 125,000 customers per day during the Games. Peak traffic is expected on August 12.

The airline will also have to meet the challenge of excess suitcases, since many passengers will land directly in Paris. According to Air France, 12,000 additional travelers will have the capital as their final destination this summer. And so in their wake, there will be just as many suitcases. Some will be a little special, underlines Florence Estra, in charge of the Paris 2024 file for Air France. “Canoes, javelins, poles”, she says.

According to the company, each athlete carries an average of four pieces of luggage, including at least one oversized baggage. Logistics which requires dedicating a terminal to them at Roissy and Orly. 125 agents will also be deployed to the Olympic village “to register the luggage and sports equipment of athletes when they leave Paris at the end of the competitions, explains Florence Estra. The objective is to really streamline their journey and avoid saturating the Roissy and Orly terminals and our baggage infrastructure.”

Air France plans to welcome 20% of Olympic athletes, it will mobilize its entire fleet this summer, i.e. 200 planes.
