Ahuntsic-Cartierville | Taxi driver stabbed in Montreal, suspect arrested

(Montreal) Montreal police are investigating an armed assault on a taxi driver in the Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough.

It was a call to 911, around 3 a.m. Saturday morning, which alerted the police to the stabbing that occurred on Robert-Giffard Avenue, near Place d’Aiguillon Street.

“When the police arrive at the scene, they locate the taxi driver, a 35-year-old man. He was conscious and stabbed in the upper body,” said Constable Caroline Chèvrefils, spokesperson for the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM).

The victim was taken to hospital, but there is no danger to his life.

The police used the canine unit during the search of the scene and the surrounding area, which made it possible to locate the suspect near the scene. The 19-year-old man was arrested and will be met by investigators later today.

“According to initial information, the taxi driver was parked and suddenly the suspect, possibly in crisis, would have opened the door of the taxi vehicle to attack the driver and then flee,” explained the SPVM spokesperson.

According to the first elements of the police investigation, the theft is not the motive for the attack.

“The scene has been protected for the investigators as well as for the forensic identification technicians so that they can all try to understand the exact circumstances of this attack”, underlined the agent Chèvrefils.

The SPVM investigation is continuing.
