The city of Orléans (Loiret) has announced a partnership with the Faculty of Medicine of Zagreb, in Croatia, in order to put an end to the medical desert in the department.

Wednesday, May 4, in the Loiret, more than 100,000 people have no attending physician. Faced with this shortage, the town hall of Orléans (Loiret) has signed a partnership with the Faculty of Medicine of Zagreb (Croatia). “The diploma is automatically recognized, since we are in the European Union and the equivalence of diplomas is fully recognized”, says Serge Grouard, mayor of Orléans. According to him, it is necessary to train at least 200 doctors per year, in order to put an end to the medical desert.

“I think it’s a good idea, anyway, we have to find a solution”, argues a resident. Students will have to pay 12,000 euros per year for this training. This is considered complex by the conference of deans of medicine, which fears that students will not complete their diploma. The training will open in September 2022, 50 students will be selected after a competition.
