She is committed to it, Germany will start delivering “in the next few days“the air defense systems promised to Ukraine. And these are the deadly strikes against Ukraine, Monday, October 10, which acted as an electric shock to the German executive. The government reacted quickly, first through the voice of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Annalena Baerbockwho called the attacks “despicable“, and that also assured that Germany was doing everything to strengthen the air defenses of Ukraine.

It is then theFederal Minister of Defence, Christiane Lambrecht, who in turn stressed the urgency of a rapid delivery of her four IRIS-T defense systems. VSThese are ultra-modern surface-to-air missile launchers, developed by the German manufacturer Diehl and which had been promised in June to Ukraine by German Chancellor Olaf Schulz. This equipment has a range of 20 kilometers high and 40 kilometers wide. According to the executive, they are likely to protect a major city from Russian air raids. Germany already has these missile launchers in their air-to-air version, configured for Ukraine in a surface-to-air version.
With these new arms deliveries, the German Chancellor is strengthening his military support for Ukraine. Olaf Scholz is regularly criticized for his country’s slowness and reluctance to provide military aid to kyiv. The Chancellor nevertheless promises in its statements to help Ukraine for as long as it takes. He states that Germany is one of the main contributors to the financial assistance given to Ukraine.
So, with the promise of this delivery, the Chancellor wants to appease and warm his relations with the government of Volodymyr Zelensky. Ukrainian President was regularly irritated by this German shyness. In the coming months, Berlin still has to deliver 500 million euros worth of weapons to Ukraine. In addition to air defense systems, there are a dozen armored vehicles, 20 rocket launchers and precision ammunition. But still not the Leopard battle tanks that kyiv has been asking for for several weeks.
