Flood alerts are repeated month after month in the Alpes-Maritimes as in Biot (Alpes-Maritimes) which was hit violently in October 2015. The former mayor of the town was sentenced to a one-year suspended prison sentence after the death of three residents of an Ephad. Since then, what has been the cost of the measures that have been put in place?
The Brague is a river with bucolic charms whose violent whims are hard to imagine. It reminds one of the inhabitants of Biot (Alpes-Maritimes) of one of his worst nightmares. On October 3, 2015, the flood of this river devastated the entire lower part of the village, causing four victims and considerable damage. 500,000 euros of work is necessary to restore his house, fully covered by his insurance. But today, he is paying a high price: “The amount of the premium has almost doubled in the space of 10 years. Our house is damaged like a car that has had several accidents,” he explains.
An insurance premium that jumps and the value of the house drops. In the neighborhood near the watercourse, prices per square meter have collapsed. However, the town hall has undertaken numerous works to limit the risks caused by flooding, even destroying a housing estate of 31 homes.
