After the announcement of a European embargo on Russian oil, where will France and the Europeans be able to get supplies? Journalist Natalia Odisharia takes stock of the situation.

Oil supply enot Europe is made delicate by the decision of an embargo on Russian oil. But solutions exist. In France, the crude Russian represents only 10 to 12% of imports. “The rest comes mainly from Africa, with 37% of imports via countries such as Algeria, Nigeria and Libya.“, specifies the journalist Natalia Odisharia. The Middle East also accounts for nearly 15% of imports. Destinations to which Europeans could turn even more.

While Europe as a whole is not heavily dependent on Russian oil either, some countries are exceptions. Finland imports no less than 80% of its oil from Russia. This is also the case for Lithuania and Slovakia. The European Union would therefore consider negotiating with West African countries, such as Nigeria, Cameroon or Angola, or importing from American countries, such as the United States or Venezuela.
