After the Cannes Film Festival, Marion Cotillard was expected in Madrid (Spain). Indeed, the officials of the Royal Theater of the Spanish capital have decided to entrust the actress with the main role of Joan of Arc at the stake, the oratorio by Arthur Honegger on a libretto by Paul Claudel, directed by Alex Ollé , which will be given in June. The beauty was called in to replace a Spanish actress, Irene Escolar. Marion Cotillard will perform in Madrid for eight performances from June 7 to 17 in co-production with the Frankfurt Opera. For the event, the mother of Louise and Marcel had unsheathed for the occasion oversized jeans signed Chanel, with a fluid blouse with blue and white floral patterns. The French star will share the stage with, in particular, actor Sébastien Durieux, soprano Sylvia Schwartz and tenor Charles Workman under the direction of Juanjo Mena who will conduct the orchestra and choirs of the Teatro Real orchestra. Honegger’s oratorio will be preceded by a Madrid premiere of La damoiselle electe, Claude Debussy’s lyric poem for two voices, with soprano Camilla Tilling and mezzo-soprano Enkelejda Shkosa.
It will not be the first time that Marion Cotillard will take on the role of Joan of Arc in the work of Arthur Honegger. The 46-year-old actress, Oscar winner in 2008 for her role in La môme, played Joan of Arc at the stake in 2005 in Orléans in 2005, in Madrid and Barcelona in 2012 and in Paris, Monaco, Toulouse and New York in 2015. Other information, this summer, on July 24, Isabelle Huppert will be the Joan of Arc of the Salzburg Festival.
This Wednesday, June 1, Marion Cotillard is also on the bill of Brother and sister by Arnaud Desplechin, in which she plays opposite Melvil Poupaud.
