After Eunice, Storm Franklin will cause disruption in Hauts-de-France and Normandy

Many disturbances are to be expected in the North, Pas-de-Calais and Normandy with the arrival of storm Franklin, according to the update made on Sunday February 20 by France Bleu Nord and France Bleu Normandie. After the storm Eunice, Franklin will sweep the north of France.

The North, Pas-de-Calais, Somme and Seine-Maritime are placed on orange alert to strong winds from 8 p.m. Sunday. Gusts of between 100 and 130 km/h are expected, while the damage caused by Eunice has not all been resolved.

25,000 homes are still without electricity in the Nord and Pas-de-Calais regions. 1,000 Enedis agents are mobilized to restore power, with reinforcements from all over France. Operations may be slowed down with the new disruption “and cause further damage to the electricity network”warns Enedis.

Rail traffic will be severely disrupted. The SNCF suspends the circulation of TER on the coast of Hauts-de-France from 7 p.m. as a precautionary measure. Traffic will remain slow on Monday. The port of Calais is also planning delays on ferries.

In Normandy, rail traffic will be interrupted from 10 p.m. Sunday between Caen and Cherbourg, Lisieux and Trouville-Deauville and between Rouen and Le Havre. Winds up to 120 km/h are announced by Météo France. SNCF is planning significant disruption on Monday with expected delays and cancellations.

Connections from Paris Saint-Lazare station will stop at Caen, Rouen and Lisieux. Scout trains will pass after the lull “to visualize the extent of the damage”specifies the SNCF, “and SNCF Réseau agents will be mobilized all night. The resumption of traffic will depend on the impacts of the storm on the tracks”.

In schools, the start of the February holidays will be hectic in places for students in the Nord, Pas-de-Calais and Somme regions. Many schools were damaged by the storm.
