Advocacy for our young athletes | Press

Our athletes are in their third year of hiatus from their sports practices. These athletes have invested years of training to achieve their dreams and passions.

Until this year, all the measures taken were essential and we have mostly complied with them. But currently, with vaccination, we have the tools to overcome this pandemic. And now the current measures had to be taken largely because of the unvaccinated who represent 10% of the population, but at least 50% of hospitalizations.

These athletes have a narrow window to achieve and perform. They need training in the right environments with their coaches and teammates. They also need competitions and matches. This is essential at a certain level, where they have to measure themselves against each other to surpass themselves and reach standards.

They cannot afford training and competition to be stopped for a third year. This would certainly put an end to the dreams of many of them, and serious psychological problems are likely to ensue.

So, I ask you to take action by imposing a much more restrictive vaccination passport on those who are not vaccinated, who are mainly responsible for the current constraints. Access to public places should be more restricted, as any essential purchase can be made online or over the phone. The unvaccinated must be responsible for their choice. And those vaccinated, who respect the instructions and the science, should have the right to resume a more normal life, especially our young people, an emerging Quebec generation full of potential which represents the future of our society.

Our young athletes have proven that they respect the health rules and are ready to do anything to resume their sports. They don’t have to be sacrificed. Mr. Legault, I therefore implore you to allow them to resume, as of now, their training under suitable conditions with coaches and teammates and to resume competitions and matches behind closed doors, both for indoor and outdoor sports. . The current situation is unacceptable. Our Quebec society needs fairness and logic to continue this fight.
