As every evening, the 11pm takes a tour of the news broadcast by European television channels. It’s the Eurozapping of Thursday 23 December.

In Spain, the mask is again compulsory outdoors. This measure was taken by the government to curb the very sharp rise in Covid-19 contamination. 60,000 positive cases were detected on Wednesday 22 December. “If everyone follows the rules there will be fewer problems, and fewer seriously ill people in hospitals”, explains a man. The country was hit hard by the first wave, but to date 90% of those over 12 are fully immunized.

The Netherlands has also taken drastic measures with a lockdown until January 14. The streets are deserted and the Dutch do not really have a taste for partying this Christmas time. Non-essential stores, bars, restaurants and cinemas are closed. Finally, in Germany, the health crisis has consequences for Lufthansa, Europe’s largest airline. It had to cancel 33,000 flights in January and February, or 10% of its program. The propagation of the Omicron variant is involved. Already last year, the company had suffered a record loss of 6.7 billion euros.
