Actress Isabelle Huppert will chair the Venice Film Festival jury

The French actress, who twice won the prize for female interpretation at the Venice festival, said she was honored to become “a privileged spectator” of the Mostra in her capacity as president of the jury for the 81st edition.

French actress Isabelle Huppert will chair the jury responsible for awarding the prestigious Golden Lion for best film at the 81st Venice Film Festival, which will be held from August 28 to September 7, the Mostra announced on Wednesday May 8.

“A long and wonderful history links me to the Venice Film Festival, to become a privileged spectator is an honor“, reacted the 71-year-old actress, already rewarded with two prizes for female interpretation on the Lido, quoted in the festival press release.

“An ideal jury president”

“Her great willingness to constantly put herself back into play, a sign of her extraordinary intelligence, as well as her ability to consider cinema beyond geographical and mental boundaries, make her an ideal jury president”commented the artistic director of the event, Alberto Barbera.

In addition to the Golden Lion, the jury that she will chair will have the delicate task of awarding on September 7 the Silver Lion-Grand Jury Prize, the Silver Lion-Prize for Best Achievement, the prizes for the best male and female interpretation and the prize for best screenplay.

Favorite actress of French director Claude Chabrol, Isabelle Huppert won the Best Actress Award at Cannes in 1978 for her role in his film. Violette Nozière. These are also two films by Claude Chabrol, A women’s affair (1988) and Ceremony (1995), which allowed her to be crowned twice in Venice.

In France, she twice won the César for best actress, for Ceremony and in 2017 for She by Paul Verhoeven, which also earned her the Golden Globe for best actress in a drama film and an Oscar nomination for best actress.
