Nicolas Cage will ultimately not be present at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal due to the actors’ strike in Hollywood.
The 59-year-old veteran actor was to pick up the honorary Career Prize at the Montreal festival, which celebrates genre films each year.
His latest movie Sympathy for the Devil is set to premiere at the festival on Saturday, but Nicolas Cage will not be attending the screening.
The actors’ union, SAG-AFTRA, went on strike last Friday and its rules prohibit its members from promoting studio films.
In a notice on its website, the festival says it will provide regular updates on other union members who had planned to attend.
The festival, which runs from July 20 to August 9, says it supports the actors, as well as the writers’ union also on strike, and hopes the unions will soon get a fair deal.
